A significant step towards developing Pakistan’s agricultural economy and ensuring environmental protection has been initiated in Cholistan under the Green Pakistan Initiative. The project aims not only to increase agricultural production but also to improve Pakistan’s environmental situation and provide modern technology to farmers, enabling them to boost crop production and maintain soil fertility. Cholistan, located in southern Punjab, is an arid and semi-desert region where the primary challenges for agricultural production are water scarcity and soil infertility. Given the agricultural importance of this region, the Punjab government has launched the Green Pakistan Initiative here, with the goal of providing modern agricultural technology, seeds, fertilizers, and machinery to the farmers of Cholistan.

The project was formally launched on February 15, 2025, in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Army Chief General Asim Munir. On this occasion, the Green Agri Mall and Service Company, Smart Agri Farm, and the Agricultural Research and Facilitation Center were also inaugurated. These measures have been taken to equip the farmers of Cholistan with modern agricultural tools, seeds, fertilizers, and technical support, so that they can increase their production through modern methods and maintain the fertility of the land. Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of this project, stating that the Green Pakistan Initiative is the foundation of a modern agricultural revolution in Cholistan and Punjab, which will ensure the development of farmers and the prosperity of Pakistan. She added that thanks to this project, not only will farmers’ economies improve, but it will also prove to be a crucial step for the future of Pakistan’s agriculture.

Army Chief General Asim Munir, in his address, stated that Punjab has become the agricultural powerhouse of Pakistan, and the army will continue to fully support the country’s economic development. He highlighted that the army has not only safeguarded the country on the warfront but has also participated in various projects for the nation’s economic growth. Through this initiative, the army is playing an essential role not only in the growth of forests but also in agricultural development, leading to a revolution in an area like Cholistan with the army’s support.
The army’s support and the provision of facilities for local farmers are vital components of this program. Under the Green Pakistan Initiative, the army has undertaken various steps to protect agricultural land, such as halting illegal mining, preventing deforestation, and working on afforestation to restore the land’s fertility. Additionally, the army has provided training to local farmers on modern agricultural methods so they can increase their production and benefit from modern technology. These actions demonstrate that the army is playing a crucial role not only in defense but also in the country’s agricultural development.

Furthermore, modern agricultural machinery, such as tractors, harrows, plows, harvesting machines, and seed planters, has been provided to farmers to reduce their labor and enhance their production capacity. This machinery is being offered to farmers at subsidized prices to help them increase production efficiently. Under the Green Pakistan Initiative, farmers are also being provided with modern agricultural technologies, including advanced irrigation systems like drip irrigation and sprinkler systems, aimed at conserving water and maintaining soil fertility. Additionally, a Smart Agri Farm has been built where farmers will be trained in modern agricultural methods and receive technical support. The Green Agri Mall and Service Company has also been established to provide farmers with modern agricultural equipment, seeds, and fertilizers. Through this company, farmers can access all necessary agricultural resources under one roof, ensuring they do not face any difficulties in managing their land. Additionally, free land is being allocated to farmers. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that three-marla plots would be provided to deserving individuals so that they can adopt modern agricultural methods on their land under this project, improving their economic condition and contributing to the country’s agricultural production.
In all these projects, modern technological facilities are being provided to the farmers of Cholistan to enable them to adopt contemporary agricultural methods and increase their productivity. The machinery provided not only enhances crop care but also reduces the labor involved. With the use of modern machinery, farmers will be able to better care for their land and achieve higher crop yields. Furthermore, new irrigation methods such as drip irrigation and sprinkler systems will help improve soil fertility and conserve water resources. These measures will not only increase agricultural production but also positively impact the environment. Another important aspect of this program is maintaining soil fertility. Various initiatives, including soil testing and research, are being implemented to improve soil quality. Additionally, farmers will be educated on the health of their soil through the Agricultural Research and Extension Center, helping them take better care of their fields.
